
John E. Gray Meritorious Teacher Award
- Is a technology education teacher below the college level with between1 and 7 years experience.
- Demonstrates positive School & Community relationships by providing leadership or participation in community projects and/or activities.
- Shows positive rapport with students.
- Inspires students, their efforts, and promotes a high degree of self-discipline.
- Proficient in instructional responsibilities by good planning, using instructional methods and materials, and strives to stay up-to-date in knowledge and methods.
- Keeps supplies well stored, equipment and tools in good condition, and practices good housekeeping.
- Shows occupational alertness and growth by experimentation, changes and innovations which are discussed or tried in class.
- Fosters industrial contacts and knowledge.
- Is enthusiastic, gets along well with peers, and works well in teams- accepts ideas.
- Is alert to the needs of students.
- Current, active member of E/TEI.
Oustanding Young Teacher Award
- Is a member of E/TEI.
- Professional preparation & attitude as evidenced by educational background and by membership and participation in professional work and organizations.
- School / Community relations as evidenced by self-motivated, cooperation, participation, and leadership in school and community projects and / oractivities.
- Occupational Alertness & Growth as evidenced by experimentation, changes, and innovations which are discussed or used, extent of contact with industry, and active membership in professional organizations.
- Is an Industrial Technology teacher below college level with at least8 year’s experience.
- Student / Teacher Relations as evidenced by alertness to needs of students, rapport with students, inspired efforts of students, and degree to which students are self-disciplined and self-governed.
- Instructional Responsibilities Proficiency as evidenced by good planning, skillfully using teaching methods and instructional materials, and by interesting keeping up-to-date. Supplies are adequate and well stored; equipment and tools are kept in good condition; and good housekeeping is practiced.
Teacher Excellence
- The teacher is and has been an active member of E/TEI.
- The teacher has a full time responsibility of teaching Technology Education.
- Students are enthusiastic about Technology Education.
- Students show pride in their work.
- Students participate in TSA activities.
- Students respect and admire the teacher as a model adult.
- Instruction is based on the interests, needs, and abilities of the learners.
- Suggestions and criticism from superiors are accepted willingly.
- Keeps abreast of developments in technology education.
- Maintains an orderly and effective teaching environment.
- Active in professional organizations and activities.
- Attends state and national conferences on Technology Education.
- Maintains rapport with students, faculty, and administration.
- Makes a strong effort to improve and grow professionally.
- Has previously received the E/TEI Meritorious Teacher Award.
- Award may be obtained every 4 years.
- One award given per state.
Program Excellence
- Program must be assessed using the Standards for Technology Education Programs *1985 as the criteria for assessment. Assessment is done in the spring and summer following acceptance of state award.
- Program nominated must be assessed by a team of at least three persons.
- The program nominated must meet or exceed 70% of the standards.
- 60% of the faculty shall be members of both the E/TEI and the ITEA.
- A school specific curriculum guide written or revised within the last5 years must be used and submitted with the nomination at the national level.
- Nominations must be submitted by: (A) the superintendent of schools for the district / county or (B) the principal for the building award
- This award may be obtained every 4 years.
- One award given per state.
John Gray Memorial Teacher Grant
You must be a secondary or middle school Technology Education teacher and current E/TEI member in good standing. (However, the president, past-president, first vice president, or second vice president may not apply for the grant while heading.)
Submit a letter of application to the address below, which must include the following:- Your name, home address, and home phone number
- Your school's name, school address, and phone number
- Your email address, if you have one
- A list of subjects taught and grade levels
- A description of the Technology Education program at your school
- Your philosophy of Technology Education
- A detailed plan for using and implementing the grant (how the $500.00 grant will be spent)
- A list of benefits the grant will provide to your students
- A budget of how the money will be spent
Secure two letters of recommendation and mail them with the application. One must be from your school's principal.
Applications will not be evaluated without the two letters of recommendation.
The grant recipient must provide E/TEI with a summary of grant details by September 1 of the year after receiving the grant.
Application must be postmarked on or before October 20 2009.
The grant will be presented at the November E/TEI Fall Conference.
Recipient may be asked to present at the following year’s conference on how they used the grant and/or write an article about the activity.
